I am a General Paediatrician with a special interest in General Paediatrics. I have recently retired from Clinical Paediatrics, having spent nearly forty years in acute front line medicine with twenty five as a Consultant Paediatrician.

I am an Academic General and Emergency Paediatrician (PEM) with Paediatric Pulmonology training. My previous consultant roles were in Melbourne, Australia, Cardiff, UK and Doha, Qatar.

My research work has focussed on clinical trials with General and Paediatric Emergency themes. I have sat on international and national research committees and research network groups and established and led one national research network (GAPRUKI) and been an inaugual establishing member of another (PERUKI).

I have developed and led undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes and been responsible for curriculum development, course delivery, exam setting, benchmarking and examining for the Universities of Manchester, Sheffield, Melbourne and Cardiff and been and external examiner for Lancaster, Warwick, University College London UK, Monash and Melborne Unverisities, Australia.

I have been an examiner and external/overseas examiner for the Royal Colleges of Paediatrics and Child Health, Royal Australasian College of Physicians,  the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.

My other roles have incldued: Welsh Academic Representative on Executive committee for Academic Paediatric Association (APA), Welsh academic representative for RCPCH Executive Committee and National Training commiteee and Welsh Deanery ARCP paediatric postgraduate trainee assessor.

I have previously been Chair of the BAGP.

My current roles include, Editior (PEM) and Associate Editor of Archives of Disease in Childhood (ADC)  Lucina and the Archivist for ADC, chair/member of three Independent Data Monitoring Committees/Trial Steering Committees. I am leading a systematic review group (Qatar) currently working with the  World Health Organisation (WHO) clinical gudelines development group. I have an Honorary Chair with the School of Medicine, Cardiff Univeristy.
